Hosts Gather to Celebrate Waltham Forest’s Cultural Diversity

Last month, Airbnb hosts came together with small business owners, Waltham Forest Council and culture experts from across the Capital to launch the borough’s first cultural map.  Today our biggest shipment to date arrived in venues across the borough, making it even easier for locals and guests alike to explore the cultural gems across Waltham Forest.

The map, co-created by hosts and the council, features locals’ favourite attractions in the area and is a celebration of the rich and diverse cultural offerings that are available across the borough.

Some of the cultural recommendations that the map uncovers include the Mirth, Marvel and Maud in E17, the Stone Space Gallery in E11 and Robins Pie and Mash shop in E4.

On the night, guest speakers included the Council’s lead for Arts & Culture, Lorna Lee, Local MP Stella Creasey and Cultural Tourism Officer for the GLA, Mike Clewley.

Cllr Clare Coghill, Waltham Forest Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and High Streets, was also at the event and spoke about the importance of the map for Waltham Forest residents and guests alike:

I’m really pleased that we have been able to work with Airbnb on the creation of this new guide, which showcases the diverse range of cultural attractions that we have here in Waltham Forest. There is so much to see and do here that the number of people choosing to visit our borough is on the rise, and I hope this guide encourages even more people to come and pay us a visit.

The map comes as new Airbnb data highlights the impact the Airbnb community has on Waltham Forest:

  • Over the past three years, bookings with Airbnb hosts across the borough have increased by almost 250 percent
  • Over three-quarters (76 percent) of guests travel to Waltham Forest from Europe and over a fifth come from the US.
  • The vast majority of Airbnb guests in Waltham Forest have overwhelmingly positive experiences and the average host rating is 4.5.

The maps have now been distributed to all Airbnb Hosts in Waltham Forest, and are available from local attractions and those venues featured. The map can also be downloaded from the Airbnb and Waltham Forest Council websites to help guests plan their trips. You can now download your copy here or pick one up in venues across the borough.

Happy exploring!
